Food Service Burn Injuries

Food Service Burn InjuriesAccommodation and food service workers in the United States have the highest rate of burn injuries than any other industry. Cooks and food preparation workers had over 20,000 serous injuries in 2011, with a median of 5 days away from work. In each year during the 2003-2008 period, heat burns accounted for less than 2 percent of injuries and illnesses to all private industry employees, but they ranged from 5 to 8 percent of all injuries and illnesses to food and beverage servers. (United States Bureau of Labor Statistics). Between deep fryers, ranges, cooktops, toasters and hot liquids, there are a lot of opportunities for burns for employees in food service.

Also, fires are actually quite prevalent in restaurant kitchens. An estimated 5,900 restaurant building fires are reported to U.S. fire departments each year and cause an estimated average of 75 injuries and $172 million in property loss (Restaurant Building Fires, Topical Fire Report Series, April 2011, Volume 12, Issue 1).

BurnFree Sterile Burn Dressings are designed for first aid use on all types of burn injuries. The dressings are constructed of a special, soft, open-cell foam saturated with the BurnFree solution. BurnFree dressings efficiently cover the burned area and yet are elastic enough to accommodate possible swelling or the need to flex joints. They are also light and easily transportable. The foam carrier’s high absorption capabilities allow complete delivery of the gel to the burn site. BurnFree dressings are non-adherent and the inert foam base will not shed threads, strands, fibers, etc., that might become embedded in the wound.

Food Service Burn Injuries

In the case of minor burn injuries, a food service employee could dress their burn wound and return to work. Using BurnFree dressings, along with a gauze covering for further protection, helps the burn area to remain moist for many hours. Utilizing this system also provides physical protection to the burn against further damage and contamination.

The moist BurnFree solution facilitates easy removal for inspection and treatment of the injured area. The gel leaves no residue. It can easily be removed with water during normal debridement. BurnFree gel is completely water soluble.

Food service injuries are incredibly painful. Be prepared with BurnFree Products.
