Frequently Asked Questions

Who should have the BurnFree products available for use?

Since BurnFree provides the physical protection essential in primary burn care, every home, business, emergency service vehicle, forest fire rescue team, auto, airplane, etc., should have immediate access to BurnFree products.

BurnFree dressings and Pain Relieving Gel are safe and simple enough for a child to use. All BurnFree products are designed for accessibility and portability. The sooner the dressing or gel is applied after the injury, the more effective it is in relieving pain and minimizing tissue damage.

Note: Applying BurnFree several hours after the injury occurs will be helpful, but it is not as effective as it is when applied soon after the injury occurs.

Who should have the BurnFree Hydrogel Survival Fire/Trauma Blanket?

The blanket is indispensable to any home or organization. This includes emergency and rescue teams, restaurants, factories, offices, small businesses, shops, and any other business involved with the public.

Think of BurnFree blankets as insurance. Like home insurance and car insurance, they are rarely used, but always are repurchased. If a person is trapped in a burning building, he or she will have an excellent chance of escaping if they have access to the insurance of the BurnFree blanket.

Why is it important that the BurnFree solution does not contain any fats or greases?

When applied to a burn injury, fats, oil-based products, and greases trap heat in the body. The heat then is forced deeper into the tissue and will cause the injury to progress. (Never use butter on a burn!)

Is medical attention necessary after using BurnFree Dressings or Blankets?

Medical attention is always advised in cases of burn injury or smoke inhalation and should be sought as soon as possible after an injury occurs.

What happens if BurnFree freezes?

BurnFree will freeze. Of course you can't use it in the frozen state, but after thawing, the product will not be damaged and will still be effective for its designed purpose. The optimum storage temperature is 72 degrees Fahrenheit. We recommend that if it is stored at a temperature over 100 degrees Fahrenheit that it be cooled before use.

Is BurnFree good for chemical burns?

Yes, but the burn must be flushed and the chemical removed from the injured area according to standard protocols. Usually a 15-minute flush is required to insure all chemicals are washed away. Then, BurnFree can be applied with excellent results.

Is BurnFree good for sunburns?

BurnFree is very effective when used on sunburns. It should be applied liberally and not be rubbed into the burned area.

Can I use it on a freezer burn?

No. A freezer burn is technically not a burn. Frostbite, cryogenics and other such problems are caused by extreme cold. They are misnamed as burns and the treatment is exactly the opposite of what is needed for a thermal burn. Do not use BurnFree on such wounds.

Is BurnFree a drug?

No. BurnFree is a medical device, which, as a class of products, contains no active ingredient.

What is the composition of BurnFree?

It is predominantly di-ionized, pure water which is thickened with a gelling agent to enable the water to stay in place over the wound site. While water is effective as a first aid for burns, it is difficult to keep in place. BurnFree gels the water to allow for effective and easy cooling directly on the burn site. BurnFree also has a wetting agent with the gel system to allow better penetration of the water into clothing or debris imbedded in the wound. This wetting agent allows the softening of this material to help ease the debridement process. BurnFree's composition also includes a preservative system and evaporation inhibitor to control the cooling process. It is our design of the system that allows for the heat transference to the gel system without the danger of uncontrolled cooling through evaporation, which can lead to hypothermia.
