Military

militaryThe rate of burn injuries in the United States military is higher than the rate of burn injuries for the general population. Overall prevalence of burns for military personnel was 19.5 burns/100,000 person. A similar US population had an accidental burn prevalence of only 7.1/100,000 from 2003 to 2007. Deployed service members have a greater risk of unintentional burns than a similar civilian cohort does. This is in part because of the specific dangers of military activities. (Burn Hazards of the Deployed Environment in Wartime: Epidemiology of Noncombat Burns from Ongoing United States Military Operations; David S Kauvar, MD, Charles E Wade, PhD, David G Baer, PhD)

In addition to burn injuries, military personnel are often subjected to harsh conditions, including sun exposure for extended periods of time.

It’s no wonder that BurnFree is sold to many militaries around the world. Dressings, blankets and gel are all essentials in every soldier’s pack.

The open cell foam used in BurnFree dressings holds 50 times its weight in gel. This means that more pain relieving and cooling gel will reach burn wounds. Also, BurnFree’s open cell foam is superior to gauze as it will not pull at the wound.

BurnFree blankets are particularly helpful for military personnel in that it can soothe and cool burns over large areas of the body. BurnFree is a highly viscous gel that effectively stays on a burn injury rather than running off the wound as water would. It is easily absorbed into the matrix of the pure virgin wool fire blanket, which is woven with a unique interlinking cell construction. The special construction, in conjunction with the wool fiber, allows the blanket to hold up to 12 times its weight of the BurnFree solution, this is higher than any current BurnFree competitor.

BurnFree blankets provide physical protection from fires. When draped over the head and body, fire-resistant BurnFree blankets are a protective shield for a rescuer or a person trapped by fire. The blankets also can be thrown over a burning area to extinguish flames and thereby create an escape route.

For immediate first aid treatment, the blankets can be wrapped around a person whose clothes are burning or who has sustained a burn injury. BurnFree blankets will instantly extinguish fires, while at the same time, wetting and cooling the fuel, which is usually clothing. This use of BurnFree blankets reduces physiological and psychological trauma by providing immediate cooling, soothing, and moistening of the burn. The blanket s should remain on the burn victim while being transported to the medical facility.
