As safety standards in refineries have improved, injuries have decreased, however flash fires, explosions, contact with harmful petrochemicals and other chemicals and hot vapor remain real risks to workers in the petrochemical industry. Additionally, while overall numbers of injuries have decreased, industrial accidents in this industry remain serious, leaving employees severely injured or leading to fatalities. According to the American Burn Association each year in the United States, 1.1 million burn injuries require medical attention, and 4,500 people die of burn injuries (2002). The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports deaths from fires and burns are the fifth most common cause of unintentional injury deaths in the United States.

PetrochemicalsWith BurnFree products in every petrochemical facility, the severity of burn injuries can be reduced significantly. BurnFree blankets utilize a worsted wool blanket soaked in BurnFree gel that is designed to hold 12 times it weight in gel and can be used both for rescue and escape as well as first aid. Blankets have several applications in the petrochemical industry—from use to help employees escape, to extinguishing fire on the victim, to soothing and stopping the progression of widespread bodily burn injuries during transport to a medical facility.

Gels and dressings are essential for the first aid treatment of burns over smaller areas of the body. BurnFree gel soothes, cools, and stops the progression of burns.

While BurnFree is 95% water based, it is a highly viscous gel that effectively stays on a burn injury rather than running off the wound as water would. It is easily absorbed into the open celled foam used in the sterile dressings, to cool the injury effectively.

Because BurnFree is not oil-based, it does not seal in the chemicals making it safe for use on chemical burns, once those burns have been thoroughly flushed. BurnFree never uses anesthetic drugs such as lidocaine in its formulation that can cause allergic reactions or is prohibited by many local regulations worldwide.
